There is growing awareness and recognition in Australia of the importance of cross-cultural Competency and cultural safety in archives and libraries. The speakers present three papers on efforts to build transparency in the profession in relation to reconciliation, unconscious bias, and Indigenous rights in records. The session provides an International exchange of ideas, encouraging reflection on issues of social justice and reconciliation within the profession.

Faulkhead's research concentrates on Koorie peoples' knowledge; the location, its position within the broader Australian society and collective knowledge as reflected through narratives and records. Shannon's multi-disciplinary research has centred on community and archives.
