Workshop Overview: In 2015, the Greene County Records Center and Archives in Xenia, Ohio, implemented an educational outreach program consisting of classroom visits as well as online resources that are available to both educators and students. The program aligns local primary source records with state social studies standards while providing local context to national events, movements and trends.

**This program received the 2016 NAGARA Program Excellence Award, the 2016 Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board Archives Achievement Award, and the 2017 Society of Ohio Archivists Merit Award.**

Teachers have raved that this program is an excellent form of outreach to local Greene County schools because it:

  • Students learn about history using records that are “close to home;”
  • Educates students about what a local government archives is and and how they can be used;
  • Showcasing the local records that they preserve.
NAGARA and The Greene County Records Center & Archives is bringing its outreach initiative to you and giving you the tools to develop such a program in your archives and records center. While the program is based on local government records, any repository, public or private, can benefit from the tools and techniques offered in this workshop.

This workshop will include presentations and hands-on learning. Participants of this workshop will:
