This workshop will walk attendees through the steps needed to develop a Social Media policy for their own agency.

Workshop Overview: Most local, state, and federal government agencies have some sort of Social Media footprint. This means that public records are being created in a very visible, rapidly changing environment that is constantly under scrutiny. Ensuring that you have an appropriate way to identify, capture, and maintain social media posts is becoming more critical to agencies, as these posts are becoming more requested by the public in FOIA and discovery requests.

This NAGARA pre-conference workshop will make you aware of what's needed to develop your own agency's Social Media policy to allow for communication with the public, while at the same time providing required records capture and management.

The presenters of this workshop will go over how to create policy for the creation and management of social media accounts, how to develop requirements to ensure the capture and maintenance of records, and provide examples of how to procure software to capture postings. Workshop attendees will walk away from this workshop with enough information for them to develop a plan for how to handle records policy, capture, and maintenance for their own agency's social media accounts.

No meals are included in the registration fee.
