Jamillah R. Gabriel is a doctoral student in the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with over 17 years of experience working in public and academic libraries. Her research interests focus on the information needs and behaviors of African Americans, and the effectiveness of cultural heritage institutions (libraries, archives, museums) at meeting the needs of African American communities. She holds a Master of Arts in Museum Studies from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, Master of Library and Information Science from San Jose State University, Bachelor of Arts in Black Studies and Journalism from California State University Long Beach, and an Associate in Arts in English from Cerritos College. Additionally, Jamillah is an entrepreneur and founder of Call Number (callnumberbox.com), a book subscription box that promotes Black literature and authors of the African Diaspora.
