Managing Physical & Digital Architecture, Design, & Construction Records #1904 [A&D] Day 1 of 2
Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design, Graphic Design and many other professions produce design and construction records that provide a unique perspective for understanding the design process and the built environment. These records, created through complicated work processes, often are produced with fragile materials, fugitive media, and complex digital files, making the implementation of basic archival functions of appraisal, arrangement, description, preservation, and reference a formidable task.

In this two-day workshop, participants learn how to preserve and provide access to physical and digital design and construction records. The first day covers the process of design, legal issues, appraisal, types of records, arrangement, and description; the second day focuses on media and support identification, preservation, reformatting, reference, and patron use.

Fees: Advance / Regular

SAA Members: $329 / $389
Employees of SAA Member Institutions: $349 / $409
Nonmembers: $439 / $549

Credits: 1.5 CEUs, 10 ARCs, 1 A&D Tactical and Strategic

Class size is limited to ensure interaction between the instructor(s) and participants. Pre-conference Course fees are in addition to conference fees.

You'll learn the nuts and bolts of crosswalking through interactive discussion and hands-on activities. Youll also discuss challenges and opportunities for metadata reuse in local use cases from course participants as well as consider implications for the shared landscape of consortiums and linked open data. Please bring local examples from your institution; there will be time to work through these.
