Delaware State University
University Archivist
Dover, Delaware Area
Hello! My name is Joy!
I am currently serving as the University Archivist at Delaware State University, an HBCU of 4,600 students located in the state capitol. DSU is counted among a number of prestigious universities founded as a result of the 1890 land-grants through the Second Morrill Act. DSU is currently presided over by Dr. Wilma Mishoe, who is not only the first woman to hold the office, but the daughter of former President Luna I. Mishoe, a renown mathematician and physicist.

Prior to my arrival in Dover, Delaware, I attended Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York as well as the University of Pittsburgh where I received my master’s in Archives and Information Science on August 9, 2014. I am also the proud alumni of several prestigious internships. They include two summers at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), a semester at Chatham University, and a year at the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra through the Pitt Partner’s program at the University of Pittsburgh.

My job at Delaware State University is chock-full of opportunities! Immediately upon my arrival I was thrust into the role of Primary Investigator for a large IMLS grant. This grant allowed me to hire and supervise two staff members, to purchase necessary supplies for the establishment of the young DSU archive, and to create a permanent, outdoor exhibit on the DSU campus. Additionally, I was fortunate to serve on former-President William's planning committee for the 125th anniversary of the University, advance a campus-wide #GOT PAPER records retention campaign, renovate the archival suite in the William C. Jason Library, and establish an archival gallery of rotating exhibits. My work is never done! I am regularly starting new projects and always looking for new ways to advance the DSU archives. Feel free to check out my progress at http://dsuarchives.blogspot.com/.
Respectfully,
Joy
