Caitlin Haynes is the Coordinator for the Smithsonian Transcription Center, where she is responsible for outreach, engagement, and project management of Smithsonian digitized content for crowdsourced transcription, alongside digital volunteers worldwide and internal Smithsonian archives, museums, and libraries. Prior to joining the Transcription Center team in 2018, Caitlin served as Reference Archivist for the National Anthropological Archives (NAA) in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. In that position she was responsible for all onsite and remote reference and outreach, primarily working to increase accessibility of NAA collections for Native Community researchers and anthropologists (the NAA’s two biggest user groups). Caitlin currently serves as a steering committee member (Vice-Chair elect) of the SAA’s Native American Archives Section, as well as Team Leader of the Survey Team for the SAA’s Reference and Outreach Section: Public Services Assessment Committee. She also actively participates in internal Smithsonian committees, serving as Vice-Chair of the Smithsonian Information Research and Information Systems (SIRIS) Members’ Group, as well as Chair of the SI Archives and Special Collections Council (SIASC) Reference Subcommittee. Caitlin received her MLIS and MA (U.S. History) from the University of Maryland, College Park, and her BA in Anthropology and History from Emory University.
