Janette Blackburn, AIA, is a Principal and leader in Shepley Bulfinch’s education practice. Her work is informed by a deep understanding of library research and learning environments, and her experience with the planning and design of academic library buildings nationwide during her 30 years of practice. Janette presents and publishes regularly. Most recently, her 2016 IFLA presentation, “Collaborating for a Successful Master Plan: Art or Science” was converted into a chapter for the upcoming monograph, “Library Design for the 21st Century: Collaborative Strategies to Ensure Success.” In addition, her paper on stakeholder input was included in the 2017 publication “Creating the High-Functioning Library Space; Expert Advice from Librarians, Architects, and Designers.” A past Chair of the Functional Space Committee, Janette is an active member of the American Library Association as well as the Society for College and University Planning. Janette is also the recipient of the 2018 Ball State Distinguished Alumnus Award from the College of Architecture and Planning.
